After an arrest

Start with the papers and the dates.

The notice you received controls your next steps. California DMV says a driver may request an administrative hearing within 10 days of receiving a DUI suspension or revocation order. That hearing concerns the driving privilege; the criminal case is separate.

1

Keep every notice

Save the DMV order, citation, court date, and any temporary license. Check names, dates, and agency details against your own paperwork.

2

Review the DMV deadline

Do not assume the court date protects your DMV hearing right. The DMV notice identifies the process and deadline for your case.

3

Prepare for court

The criminal court case has its own calendar and possible consequences. Confirm the department, location, and appearance instructions on your notice.

The outcome depends on the facts of the case. No result is guaranteed. For current rules, see California DMV's DUI guidance.

DUI school and work release resources

A court order, DMV notice, and the program's own rules determine what applies to you. Confirm current enrollment, eligibility, and location directly before making plans.

Work release / Alternative Work Program

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Alternative Work Program (AWP) may let an approved person complete community work in place of jail time. Its application says each completed workday earns one day of credit, workdays run 8–10 hours, and the program is limited to sentences of 90 days or less. Approval is discretionary; a DUI charge does not automatically qualify.

Call the Jail Alternatives Unit at (209) 491-8771 before visiting 194 E. Hackett Road, Modesto to confirm the current application process and location. Ask about Home Detention separately if maintaining regular employment is the concern.

Common questions

Stanislaus County DUI questions

Is the DMV hearing the same as my court case?

No. California DMV describes its administrative hearing as a proceeding about your driving privilege. A criminal DUI charge is handled separately in court.

Where is the Stanislaus County Criminal Division?

The court lists its Main Courthouse Criminal Division at 800 11th Street in Modesto. Your notice or counsel should confirm the specific department and appearance instructions for your matter.

Can I use the self-help option instead?

The self-help page covers a DMV hearing request, not criminal court representation. Review the scope and fee before deciding whether it fits your needs.
